BEN & EMILY: A PARIS PROPOSAL BEHIND THE PRIVATE DOORS OF THE CERCLE INTERALLIÉ

THE RING HE HAD ALREADY IMAGINED

Ben knew exactly what he wanted. Warm yellow gold and a striking pear-cut natural diamond that would shine brightly on Emily’s hand.

He had even imagined what would come next. One day, the engagement ring would be worn with a custom eternity band set with oval diamonds.

His vision was clear and so was his budget. He gave me a very specific challenge: find the diamond that brought everything together.

Because he had contacted me well in advance, I had time to search properly. There was no need to choose a stone that was almost right.

THE DIAMOND WAS IN HONG KONG

Ben was looking for an elongated pear-cut diamond, remarkably pure, substantial in size and beautifully cut.

The perfect stone was eventually found in Hong Kong.

Once it arrived in Paris, its exact proportions became the starting point for the ring. The atelier prepared a first sketch, followed by several design proposals. Ben and I considered each one until the proportions, profile and setting felt completely resolved.

When the final design was approved, the ring went into casting. Ben was relieved. The most important decisions had been made and the creation was now in the hands of our Parisian artisans.

Inside the band, hidden from view, Ben had one line engraved: Amor Ducit — “love leads.”

PARIS, THEIR HAPPY PLACE

Ben and Emily were coming from London, but Paris was the place they had chosen for this moment. It was their happy place and the city in which Ben wanted their next chapter to begin.

With the ring in production, the proposal began to take shape around two Say Yes in Paris partners: the Cercle de l’Union Interalliée and photographer Laura Saulle.

The Cercle offered the private setting Ben had imagined. Laura would be there to preserve the moment without disturbing it. The details remained between us. Emily was to know nothing.

THE DAY AT THE CERCLE

On the day of the proposal, The Diamond Concierge delivered the finished ring securely and discreetly to the Cercle de l’Union Interalliée.

Ben and Emily arrived for lunch at the private members’ club. Afterwards, on a sunlit balcony overlooking its gardens, Ben went down on one knee and asked Emily to marry him.

She wore an exquisite framboise dress with slender heels in the same tone. The diamond was impossible to miss. Neither was her smile.

Laura Saulle captured the proposal as it happened, allowing the moment to remain intimate while giving Ben and Emily photographs that would bring them back to Paris for years to come.

THE CIRCLE WAS COMPLETE

I saw them the following day. They were the happiest, loveliest couple, and Emily’s pear-cut diamond looked exactly as Ben had imagined it on her hand.

There was one final surprise.

Remember the eternity band set with oval diamonds that Ben imagined pairing with the engagement ring one day? He did not know that I had already prepared it for them.

The pear-cut engagement ring had found its pair. The circle was complete.
